Tiger’s Destiny Study Guide
1) The opening poem Rising Phoenix is about a phoenix. Or is it? What else or who else could it symbolize? Discuss.
2) Mr. Kadam and Nilima disappear at the end of Tiger’s Voyage. Where did they go? And, more importantly, how did this journey affect Mr. Kadam? If he hadn’t wiped her memory of it, how would it have affected Nilima? Did he make the right decision to keep it from her?
3) Did Kelsey handle being Lokesh’s prisoner in a smart way? What might she have done differently and would the result have been better or worse?
4) When Kelsey escapes from Lokesh she sheds her wedding attire. What else could this act represent?
5) Was Mr. Kadam right to hide his knowledge of the future from the group?
6) How is the visit to Durga’s temple is different than in the other books?
7) Kelsey believes that those who love her always die. Is this a justifiable fear? How does Mr. Kadam’s death impact her?
8) Kishan proposes to Kelsey and she accepts a ring even though she still has feelings for Ren. Is she being unfair? What is motivating him to ask at that particular moment?
9) One of the brothers disguised himself as an elderly woman to question Kelsey. The author deliberately kept his identity a secret until the end of the book. Which brother did you think it was? How would the story have been different if it had been Ren in disguise rather than Kishan?
10) Kishan offers Kelsey a key as a Christmas gift. What does the gift of a home mean to Kelsey?
11) The phoenix asks Kelsey to voluntarily walk on a bed of fire. Fire is deadly but it is also cleansing. Why do you think the phoenix chose her and what did she learn from the experience?
12) The phoenix offered Ren, Kishan, and Kelsey a gift. What did they ask for? Who got the best gift?
13) Are the Rakshasa truly evil? Why or why not? How did being a captive of Lokesh prepare Kelsey to deal with the Rakshasa?
14) The Lords of the Flame are brothers who are seeking the girl they love. How are they different from Ren and Kishan?
15) Anamika and Kelsey are described as two sides of the same coin. How are they the same and how are they opposite?
16) Is Anamika an effective leader? Why or why not?
17) Lokesh has become the demon Durga is destined to fight. Do you believe your destiny is predetermined? If so, is free will an illusion?
18) In Tiger’s Destiny we learn that Phet was also Anamika’s teacher. Would you trust him? Who or what do you think Phet truly is?
19) Why couldn’t Kelsey ride the black tiger into battle?
20) How is Fanindra really the hero of the series?
21) What do the markings around the Damonastra signify?
22) Why did Kishan choose to remain behind? What has he given up to save his brother?
23) In Tiger’s Curse Mr. Kadam translates the prophecy in the Cave of Kanheri. It says, “Seek Durga’s Prize. Four gifts five sacrifices. One transformation. Beast becomes mortal.” What were the four gifts and the five sacrifices?
24) Why is the letter from Kishan passed down through the centuries, significant?
25) Has Kelsey grown in the series? How is she different from the girl in Tiger’s Curse?
