Double Feature Movie Review: The Giver & If I Stay
The Giver I always give spoilers so consider yourself warned. =) Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: There was a sweet, innocent kind of romance in this film that was purely devised by the filmmakers as there was nothing of the kind in the book. I found myself just as fascinated with Fiona’s lips as Jonas. Not sure how they stayed so plump and glossy when no one there was supposed to be wearing makeup. Special Effects: I liked the layout of the city and the buildings and the technology. Replacing the fake tree limbs was cool. What I Liked: The actors. They all did …
Movie Review Double Feature: Hercules & Guardians of the Galaxy
Hercules I always give spoilers so consider yourself warned. =) Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: There were allusions to romance through visions of Hercules’ dead family. There was nothing to swoon over though. And, let’s just say, there’s no way on this planet the woman who portrayed Hercules’ wife, who we got a very good look at by the way, had three babies. No. Way. I do like the nod to Disney with them calling her Megara. Special Effects: I was really going into this film hoping to see Hercules battling cool CGI monsters like they showed in the previews. Sadly, …
Movie Review Double Feature: Transformers: Age of Extinction & Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Transformers: Age of Extinction I always give spoilers so consider yourself warned. =) Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: Sigh. There was a pathetic, sloppy attempt to have a romance but in the three hours of robot destruction they managed to put in only two vague references to a girl and a boy being in love. I kinda liked the guy. I loathed the girl entirely. And I’m talking about loathing with a level of passion that is hard to rouse from me in a film where I had less than zero expectations. Incidentally, I would have boycotted the film altogether if my nephews …
Movie Review Double Feature: Edge of Tomorrow and The Fault In Our Stars
Movie Review: Edge of Tomorrow I always give spoilers so consider yourself warned. Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: There is something about Tom Cruise and, make no mistake, he is ALWAYS Tom Cruise no matter what the character’s name is that he plays, that makes me smile. Don’t get me wrong. He’s not on my list of favorite people and yet when I watch him on screen there’s a sort of charm that comes across that just makes me want to like him, want to believe in him, and yes, even want to kiss him. The only warmth in the relationship came …
Movie Review Double Feature: Maleficent & X-Men: Days of Future Past
Movie Review: Maleficent I always give spoilers so consider yourself warned. Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: There were two couples in this film. One was Prince Phillip and Aurora. I liked them okay but wow they are young. Too young for me to feel any romancy kinds of flutters. I mostly wanted to scold and separate them. The other couple was Maleficent and Aurora’s daddy, Stefan. They were a much cuter couple when young than when they grew up. I didn’t really feel much in the way of chemistry between the adult actors. Now there was a lot of chemistry between Maleficent …
Movie Review-Godzilla
Movie Review: Godzilla I always give spoilers so consider yourself warned. Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: No real romance going on in this movie. Unless you count the Muto Monsters which are apparently so secret I can’t even find a picture of them on the internet. This is the closest thing I can find. Special Effects: So mind blowing good I couldn’t even attempt to describe them. The best effects I’ve seen in a long, long time. What I Liked: The monsters. They were so awesome that every time they were on screen, it was magical. I was utterly transfixed by their coolness. …
Movie Review: The Amazing Spider-man 2
Movie Review: The Amazing Spider-man 2 Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: The romance between Peter Parker and Emma Stone…er Andrew Garfield and Gwen Stacy er…you know what I mean. Feels as real as it is. It’s cute. It’s sweet. It wasn’t much of a stretch to believe these two are in love. Special Effects: Pretty awesome. I can’t think of anything I didn’t like. Would really like the super desk that belongs to Harry Osborn. What I Liked: The villains. The eels. The fact that Spider-man was totally willing to follow Gwen. The cuteness of their relationship. What I’d Change: Not much of anything really. …
Movie Review: Transcendence
Movie Review: Transcendence Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: I love Johnny Depp. I love the characters he plays. I love his charm and his creative genius. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him do romance well though. That’s not a terrible thing. There are all kinds of actors and romance is just not his thing. The sad part is, I didn’t even think he liked his wife in this case. There wasn’t enough shown in their relationship to make me believe she would actually risk her career to make all of this happen. A few more scenes of tenderness between them would have …
Movie Review Double Feature: Noah & Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Movie Review: Noah Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: Not too much going on in the way of romance between Noah and his wife and the angst felt between Ila and Shem was more heartfelt when they were kids holding hands. As adults or, I guess, young adults they were already committed to each other so we didn’t get to see any of that relationship develop. Special Effects: The animals loading into the ark was pretty cool though it was obvious all the animals were CGI. Even the dove. The rain was a torrential flood of epic proportions that happened so quickly the …
Movie Review: Muppets Most Wanted
Movie Review: Muppets Most Wanted Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: Oh boy. There was a scene when Constantine posing as Kermit sang Piggy a love song called “I’ll Get You What You Want,” while dancing in a disco-like setting with an unbuttoned white shirt that showed off his…er…green chest ruffle. It was so awesome! Special Effects: Not really applicable. What I Liked: The music, the songs, the jokes, the Muppets, the cameos, especially the one at the end when they revealed who was trapped inside the box at the prison. That voice was driving me crazy and I laughed my head off …
