Tiger’s Destiny Deleted Scene-Kadam Confronts Lokesh
February 1, 2014
In the first section Lokesh tells Kadam he hid a tracking device in Kelsey’s ring which she promptly throws as far away as she can. The second scene is a description of what it was like for Kadam to move them through time and space.
Lokesh laughed. “She’s close, my comrade, even now. I’m tracking her, you see. How did you think I found you in this wilderness?”
“She has no tracking device under her skin. We would have found it.”
Turning his back on the trees, Lokesh mocked Mr. Kadam. “And I thought you were the smart one of the group. For shame.” He clicked his tongue in jest and explained, “I snuck a tracking device into something she took with her from my home. It’s hidden cleverly in the one object a girl would never throw away.”
I sucked in a breath softly and racked my brain trying to remember what I’d taken with me. I’d left everything behind, even my clothing. I had the Scarf, the Necklace, the bow and arrows, and the Golden Fruit. The tracking device could have been sewn into the quiver for the arrows I supposed but I’d left those at home. He wouldn’t have found us here if it was in that. What did he mean by something a girl would never throw away?
The answer hit me suddenly and I gasped loudly enough that Lokesh and Mr. Kadam stopped talking and peered at the trees. Kishan covered my mouth with his hand but I shook my head, pulled it away, and slipped off my glove. Sitting on my finger, twinkling in the moonlight, was my pink diamond ring. I’d totally forgotten about it. I’d been planning to throw it in the pile to sacrifice to Durga, figuring a diamond is created by heat, but I’d been distracted.
I pointed to it dramatically and attempted by gesture to show Kishan it had a tracking device in it. Ren held out his palm. I placed the ring in his hand and silently he stood, drew back his arm, and threw the ring as far as he could. I watched it fly and saw the sparkle in the moonlight for just a moment and then it was gone. Ren sunk back down next to me and put his finger to his lips. I nodded.
My body seemed to fill it, but there were wide spaces between my cells—gaps big enough that my mind could loop between them like a barrel racer. As I stretched out further in a dance of the mind, I brushed across other thoughts that mingled with mine briefly before I passed out of range.
Testing this, I spun towards one of these foreign minds and wrapped around it. I touched one gleaming piece of the being and followed the trail to another and another. A mind met mine and explored me as cautiously as I did it. The mind opened to me and as I studied it, I realized it was Ren! Happily, I moved through space and he followed, swirling around me. Together we found Kishan and then a very bright mind found us and gently nudged us forward. We realized this was Mr. Kadam and marveled at the differences between us and him.
His thoughts were familiar and comforting but he kept himself distant from our playful dance and maintained a steady course ahead, only pausing when we became distracted on our journey.
Giddily, I spun around and around looking at myself from every possible molecular angle and often felt the touch of Ren or Kishan as they followed along near me. When I hit the wall of light, the cells trailing along behind slammed into me, strung themselves together, and pushed me slowly through.
