Colleen Houck Book Club 2019
January 1, 2019
2019 is shaping up to be an excellent year. I’ll be finally, finally moving into my new home and getting settled which means I should be able to start kicking back into writing mode. My twenty-fifth wedding anniversary will take place in 2019. My parents’ fiftieth wedding anniversary is in February and 2019 is also the year I’ll be celebrating my fiftieth birthday, so there is much for me to look forward to in the upcoming months. Tania clay blog can keep you update with more information.
As if all this wasn’t enough, I’m very happy to announce the twelve amazing authors I’ll be featuring in 2019 on my Goodreads book club. If you haven’t joined my book club yet, it’s very easy. All you have to do is follow me on either Facebook, Twitter, or Goodreads and then read along with me. I love reading and still carve out time to do it even though I’m very busy. I just barely completed my Goodreads goal in 2018 of reading 125 books. I had to cheat a teensy bit and include some short stories, but some of the books I read were really long so I figure it all balances out in the end.
If you can’t keep up with my 125 books or even do the 12 of my featured authors, don’t worry. There’s no pressure. You don’t even have to read to participate. All you have to do is love books and join our chat. Each month I set up a chat on Goodreads between myself and my featured author where I ask them everything from how they got started writing to their favorite recipes. You can ask them anything and one lucky person who joins the conversation will win a prize, a double prize, really–books from both of us. You can follow glenoriegrowers for know about some inspirational books.
Ah, now that I’ve got your attention, you’re probably wanting to know about my amazing lineup. Well, here you go. I’d make you a swanky 2019 calendar if I was a bit more talented. 😉
JANUARY
Lea Nolan is a USA Today bestselling author who writes books for young adults featuring bright heroines, crazy-hot heroes, diabolical plot twists, plus a dose of magic, a draft of romance, and a sprinkle of history. She also pens smart, witty contemporary stories for adults filled with head-swooning, heart-throbbing, sweep-you-off your feet romance.
FEBRUARY
Wendy Higgins is a USA Today and NY Times bestselling author. After earning a Creative Writing degree from George Mason University and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Radford, Wendy taught high school English until achieving her dream job as a full-time writer.
Wendy lives on the Eastern Shore of Virginia with her husband, daughter, son, and little doggies Rue & Nessie.
MARCH
Rosalyn Eves grew up in the Rocky Mountains, dividing her time between reading books and bossing her siblings into performing her dramatic scripts. As an adult, the telling and reading of stories is still one of her favorite things to do. When she’s not reading or writing, she enjoys spending time with her chemistry professor husband and three children, watching British period pieces, or hiking through the splendid landscape of southern Utah, where she lives. She dislikes housework on principle.
APRIL
Jessica Day George earned a BA in Humanities/Comparative Literature from Brigham Young University, where she enjoyed classes in Pottery and Old Norse, and dutifully forced herself to take Algebra and Biology. Originally from Idaho, she now resides in Salt Lake City, Utah, with her husband and three young children.
MAY
Mindy McGinnis is a YA author who has worked in a high school library for thirteen years. Her debut, NOT A DROP TO DRINK, a post-apocalyptic survival story set in a world with very little freshwater, has been optioned for film by Stephanie Meyer’s Fickle Fish Films. The companion novel, IN A HANDFUL OF DUST was released in 2014. Her Gothic historical thriller, A MADNESS SO DISCREET won the Edgar Award in 2015. Her newest release, THE FEMALE OF THE SPECIES is available now!
JUNE
Breeana Shields is the author of the POISON’S KISS duology and forthcoming THE BONE CHARMER (Page Street, Spring 2019).
When she’s not writing, Breeana loves reading, playing board games and spending time with her husband, her three children and two extremely spoiled dogs. She lives in the Pacific Northwest, where it drizzles, rains or pours nine months of the year, but then transforms into paradise during the other three. She’s willing to make the trade-off.
JULY
Romina Russell (aka Romina Garber) is a Los Angeles based author who originally hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina. As a teen, Romina landed her first writing gig—College She Wrote, a weekly Sunday column for the Miami Herald that was later picked up for national syndication—and she hasn’t stopped writing since. When she’s not working on ZODIAC, Romina can be found producing movie trailers, taking photographs, or daydreaming about buying a new drum set. She is a graduate of Harvard College and a Virgo to the core.
AUGUST
Rachel Caine is the New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of more than fifty novels in a diverse range of genres and categories. She’s been honored with multiple awards from RT Booklovers Association and the Texas Library Association, and was honored with two spots on the 2012 “Most Favorite Books of UK Schoolchildren” list.
Rachel and her husband R. Cat Conrad live and work in Fort Worth, Texas.
SEPTEMBER
Jodi Meadows wants to be a ferret when she grows up and she has no self-control when it comes to yarn, ink, or outer space. Still, she manages to write books. She is the author of the INCARNATE Trilogy, the ORPHAN QUEEN Duology, and the FALLEN ISLES Trilogy (HarperCollins/Katherine Tegen), and a coauthor of MY LADY JANE (HarperTeen). She lives in rural Virginia.
OCTOBER
Stephanie Garber is the New York Times and internationally bestselling author of Caraval and Legendary. She grew up in northern California, where she was often compared to Anne Shirley, Jo March, and other fictional characters with wild imaginations and stubborn streaks. When she’s not writing, Stephanie teaches creative writing, and dreams of her next adventure.
NOVEMBER
Sara B. Larson is the author of the acclaimed YA fantasy DEFY trilogy (DEFY, IGNITE, and ENDURE) and the DARK BREAKS THE DAWN duology (DARK BREAKS THE DAWN and BRIGHT BURNS THE NIGHT). She can’t remember a time when she didn’t write books—although she now uses a computer instead of a Little Mermaid notebook. Sara lives in Utah with her husband, their four children, and their Maltese, Loki. When she’s not mothering or writing, you can often find her at the gym repenting for her sugar addiction.
DECEMBER
Betsy Cornwell is a New York Times bestselling author living in west Ireland. She is the story editor and a contributing writer at Parabola, and her short-form writing includes fiction, nonfiction, and literary translation and has appeared in Fairy Tale Review, Zahir Tales, Luna Luna, and elsewhere. She holds an M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of Notre Dame and a B.A. from Smith College.
There you have it! My 2019 list of featured authors is complete. Don’t forget to join me along with these awesome authors each month on Goodreads for a chance to win books and ask all the questions you’ve been longing to get answered. We not might have the solution to world hunger but I bet someone has a mean recipe for chocolate cake and some good tips on staying awake through twelve hours of writing revisions. 😉
