Up, Up, & Away In My Beautiful Balloon
I’ve been nagging my hubby to write a post on our balloon ride that was my birthday/anniversary surprise back in October and he finally did it! It was very cool and unexpected and even though he’s kind of factual about the whole thing it was a very sweet and romantic gesture particularly considering that this is the same guy who gave me corn dogs for Christmas one year. 😉 It’s the best kind of gift for an author, a new experience I can write about. Colleen Oh, He Floats Through the Air…! One of the most memorable events …
Movie Review: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies I always give spoilers so consider yourself warned. =) Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: Oh boy. Here we go. For me the only romance was between me and Legolas as I watched him in the film. There was a pseudo-romance between dwarf Kili and elf Tauriel. It was supposed to be some great love affair that broke her heart in this film since he was killed and yet there was absolutely no reason for them to be in love. They met, sure. They might have been attracted to each other. There were long looks. …
Movie Review: Into The Woods
Into The Woods I always give spoilers so consider yourself warned. =) Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: I liked the sweet relationship between the baker and his wife and seeing Rapunzel and her prince and Cinderella with Prince Charming (Chris Pine) was fun but the parts where they fall in love was missing from the film. In fact, all the fun bits like the ball or the prince climbing the tower and meeting Rapunzel weren’t shown. You can visit Mitcccny to know about some family movies. Special Effects: I loved the change from ugly to pretty when the witch broke the curse. …
Movie Review For Interstellar & Big Hero 6
Interstellar I always give spoilers so consider yourself warned. =) Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: There wasn’t much going on in the way of romance. Something was teased briefly between Matthew’s character and Anne’s but nothing really developed in the timeframe of the film and it was a looonnnng timeframe. Special Effects: There were definite and obvious nods to Christopher Nolan’s previous projects. I liked the ice planet and the spaceship. The wormhole was interesting. The way people slept on the ship and the planet where they were walking on water was cool. The circular farms going up overhead was too much …
A Day in the Life of a Literary Agent
Out there lies talent, it just has to be found! “The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work.” – Émile Zola Hi Everyone, I’d talked with Alex a few months ago about writing a blog post for my website and he not only agreed but wrote an outstanding and informative piece. I hope you enjoy! (Can you see the Tiger’s Curse books on his shelf?) Colleen Introducing. . . Alex Glass A Day in the Life of a Literary Agent “Most literary agents—most people who work in book publishing, for that matter—got …
Double Feature Movie Review: The Maze Runner & Dracula Untold
The Maze Runner I always give spoilers so consider yourself warned. =) Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: There wasn’t really much of a romance going on in this movie. The characters felt more like friends than anything else. Special Effects: Loved the maze, the grievers, and the layout of everything. My favorite shot was when they were in a helicopter flying over the maze. What I Liked: The actors. They all seemed to fit the parts really well. The cool things they added to the maze. The grievers. What I’d Change: Some things didn’t make sense with the movie. In the book they disappeared over a …
Double Feature Movie Review: The Giver & If I Stay
The Giver I always give spoilers so consider yourself warned. =) Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: There was a sweet, innocent kind of romance in this film that was purely devised by the filmmakers as there was nothing of the kind in the book. I found myself just as fascinated with Fiona’s lips as Jonas. Not sure how they stayed so plump and glossy when no one there was supposed to be wearing makeup. Special Effects: I liked the layout of the city and the buildings and the technology. Replacing the fake tree limbs was cool. What I Liked: The actors. They all did …
Movie Review Double Feature: Hercules & Guardians of the Galaxy
Hercules I always give spoilers so consider yourself warned. =) Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: There were allusions to romance through visions of Hercules’ dead family. There was nothing to swoon over though. And, let’s just say, there’s no way on this planet the woman who portrayed Hercules’ wife, who we got a very good look at by the way, had three babies. No. Way. I do like the nod to Disney with them calling her Megara. Special Effects: I was really going into this film hoping to see Hercules battling cool CGI monsters like they showed in the previews. Sadly, …
An Interview With Gregg Olsen
An Interview With Gregg Olsen Gregg Olsen has 3 Young Adult novels under his belt. Girls on Film: A Vengeance Novel is his most recent book from his new YA series. He also has Empty Coffin Series with two books. . See his ENVY book trailer below. http://youtu.be/ux5QPxTYJ5g You have written both fiction and non-fiction, including True Crime. When writing GIRLS ON FILM (RUN in the UK), did you feel that the knowledge you have of real life crime helped or hindered your plotting? Definitely helps. Over my years I’ve had the privilege (and I do consider it so) to tell …
Movie Review Double Feature: Transformers: Age of Extinction & Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Transformers: Age of Extinction I always give spoilers so consider yourself warned. =) Colleen’s Movie Review Romance: Sigh. There was a pathetic, sloppy attempt to have a romance but in the three hours of robot destruction they managed to put in only two vague references to a girl and a boy being in love. I kinda liked the guy. I loathed the girl entirely. And I’m talking about loathing with a level of passion that is hard to rouse from me in a film where I had less than zero expectations. Incidentally, I would have boycotted the film altogether if my nephews …
